Hey how come my downloads always start out really fast then drop down over time.

For many browser or download apps the file starts downloading when your naming it and doesn't actually factor in that time. The browser thinks you instantly downloaded 5 mb and just counts that as the average speed and it slowly drops down from there.

Some ISP have an initial burst rate that they can set. That is why you see the initial high speed and then it tapers off.
